Japanese knotweed won’t impact development of new gaelcholáiste in Tralee

The presence of Japanese knotweed at the site of the new Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí building in Tralee will not impact on development works.

The site is located between University Hospital Kerry and Hawley Park.

Director of Organisation, Support and Development for Kerry ETB Marie Brennan says they have been aware of the invasive growth for the past 15 months.

Experts have been tasked to treat it during that time.

Ms Brennan says the growth won’t delay the development of the site.

Enabling works are due to start in early 2019 and foundations for the school are expected to be laid in the second quarter of 2019.
