The Institute of Technology, Tralee is offering Masters by Research scholarships worth over 300,000 euro. There are currently 43 postgraduate researchers at IT Tralee. Admission of students for Masters by research at IT Tralee was reopened earlier this year following a review of postgraduate degrees by the statutory body charged with upholding academic standards. Quality and Qualifications Ireland began the review following the outcome of an investigation into an allegation of plagiarism against former IT Tralee Chair Flan Garvey. That found was found Mr Garvey, who has since stepped down, had plagiarised his Masters thesis but that the plagiarism was unintentional. IT Tralee was given a list of recommendations by QQI which have been put in place by the college. 15 new postgraduate researchers have been admitted to the college this year. The Institute has also launched its 2014 Masters by Research Scholarship Programme offering 14 scholarships worth in excess of €22,000 each to attract exceptional graduates from around the world to carry out pioneering research.
