Irish Water says long term availability of water for the Kenmare area remains an issue.
It says it’ll pursue sustainable longer-term sources of water in future investment programmes.
A Freedom of Information request by Radio Kerry revealed that it cost the taxpayer €700,000 to secure an alternative water supply – a plan which was subsequently rejected in the courts.
Three years ago, the Circuit Court ruled against Kerry County Council’s plan to source extra water for Kenmare from the River Sheen at nearby Bonane.
Cllr Johnny Healy-Rae is urging Irish Water not to revisit the River Sheen option.
