Irish Water invest €1 million in water mains rehabilitation in South Kerry

Irish Water is to invest €1 million in water mains rehabilitation in South Kerry.

The works will comprise the replacement of 6.1 km of water mains in Mountain Stage, Glenbeigh, Ballykissane, Killorglin, Shannera and Cappagh North, Beaufort and Sneem.

Irish Water announced the funding to improve problematic sections of water main in five areas of South Kerry.

Cappagh North and Shannera in Beaufort require the replacement of 1600 and 1800 metres of water main, respectively.

Ballykissane, Killorglin and Sneem have approximately 1 kilometre of works to be undertaken, while Mountain Stage in Glenbeigh has just over 700 metres of water main to be upgraded.

A contractor has been appointed to carry out the upgrades, which will take a total of 22 weeks to complete and work is due to get underway in the coming month.

Temporary traffic management arrangements will be put in place as the work progresses in order to minimise disruption to the public.

Irish Water says the works will lead to a major improvement in the security and reliability of water supply for customers in the areas.
