Irish Team Captain secures medal in World Boxing Championships

It’s been a mixed day so far for Irish boxers at the World Championships. Team captain Michael Conlan is now assured a medal, after beating Azerbaijan’s Tayfur Aliyev in the bantamweight quarter finals. That win also means Conlan joins John Joe Nevin in winning Olympic, World and European medals. Light flyweight Brendan Irvine is out however, he lost his quarter final on a unanimous decision to the Cuban, Joahnys Argilagos. Two more boxers see last-8 action in Doha today.
