Irish Junior Swimming Relay Record Broken Today

Swim Ireland Irish swimmers at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Dordrecht, Holland continued their good form on the fourth day of competition with another Irish Junior Relay Record wiped from the books. Following the 5 second thrashing of the Girls 4x100m Medley Relay yesterday, Ben Griffin (Breaststroke) and James Brown (Butterfly) joined Danielle Hill (Backstroke) and Laoise Fleming (Freestyle) in smashing the Irish 4x100m Medley Mixed Team Relay Record knocking almost 10 seconds off the previous best time of 4:16.95 and set a new standard of 4:07.33. Griffin and Brown had already swum the heats of the 100m Butterfly prior to the relay with both posting personal best times of 58.45 and 57.25 respectively. Hill had also competed in the 100m Backstroke heats where she touched in 1:06.57 outside her best of 1:05.60. Also in action this morning Laoise Fleming clocked 1:06.64 in the 100m Backstroke, Emma Reid was second in her heat of the 50m Freestyle in a lifetime best of 28.23 while Niamh Kilgallen (1:13.89) and Dearbhail McNamara (1:13.74) missed out on semi-final spots in an extremely fast set of 100m Breaststroke heats. In the final day of action tomorrow Ben Griffin and James Brown will contest the 400m Individual Medley and Gemma Kane, Danielle Hill, Niamh Kilgallen and Emma Reid all will swim the heats of the 50m Butterfly.
