Irish cars cost 30% more than European average

The cost of cars in Ireland is 31% above the European average. This is down to the high vehicle registration tax which can make up to 30% the cost of a car, according to Patrick mcelligott of McElligotts in Tralee. He says if the tax is not reduced, he would support a change to ensure the tax went solely to the upkeep of roads rather than a general pool of services. Mr Mcelligot also says the SIMI constantly campaigns to bring down the price of tax and fuel.
