Irish Boxers In World Quarters Today

Four Irish boxers are in quarter final action at the World Championships in Doha today. First into the ring is light flyweight Brendan Irvine who faces the Cuban, Joahnys Argilagos. Following that, team captain Michael Conlon goes up against Azerbaijan’s Tayfur Aliyev in the bantamweight class. Middleweight Michael O’Reilly is up against a Kazakh opponent today while light heavyweight Joe Ward goes up against a Belarussian. There were mixed fortunes for Irish boxers yesterday. Joe Ward reached the light heavyweight quarter finals with a unanimous decision victory over his Ukranian opponent. However, lightweight Sean McComb fell victim to questionable judges decisions in his bout with Azerbaijan’s Albert Selimov.
