An Ireland South MEP says he will work to ensure fraudulent activity won’t impact people living within the European Union.

MEPs in Strasbourg voted in favour of new rules to curb document fraud by criminals trying to enter the EU.

86 different ID cards and 181 types of residence documents are currently being used in the EU.

The updated rules will make it mandatory for a facial image and two fingerprints to be stored on a chip in the card.
