Ireland-South MEP criticises United States’ move to withdraw from climate agreement

An Ireland-South MEP has criticised the United States’ move to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly was speaking after US President Donald Trump officially notified the United Nations of plans to withdraw from the world’s first-ever legally binding global climate deal.

MEP Sean Kelly believes it’s vital the move is met with a unified global response to double down on efforts to reduce harmful emissions.

The Kilcummin native, who is leader of Fine Gael in the European Parliament, says the US withdrawal cannot be made official until after the 2020 US Election, so it’s important to look beyond the timespan of the current administration.
