Gardai are investigating the attempted removal of a heritage stone from the beach at Cromane Lower on Saturday morning. A man, first made an attempt to remove the stone on Friday, however having failed in his bid he returned on Saturday morning. Locals were on hand to stop the man, who gardai in Killorglin say is a builder. The man was not arrested after Gardai were alerted to the incident at around 11 o clock Saturday morning. The stone is made of marble and is believed to be of some value. Gardai believe the attempted unlawful removal of the heritage stone may come under offences against the foreshore act, where any item from high tide mark to low tide mark is under a general ministerial protection order.
