An international press call by anti-fracking campaigners including Hollywood star Mark Ruffalo is being held this afternoon focusing on the proposed Shannon LNG terminal.
TD Brid Smith, Friends of the Earth, Food and Water Watch, local campaigners and health professionals are involved in the event.
It comes in the wake of Sweden’s decision to pull an LNG project off the European Union’s energy projects of common interest list.
The campaigners want the Irish Government to do the same with the project to build the liquified natural gas terminal on the Tarbert Ballylongford landbank due to concerns that fracked gas will be used.
They claim this needs to be done by this Wednesday or the Kerry project will become eligible for EU subsidies and would fast track planning permission.
