Inspections to be carried out for provision of pension schemes.

Checks are to be made on employers in the county to ensure they’re providing pension schemes for their workers. Social Welfare Inspectors are to be given powers to conduct the checks under the new Social Welfare Bill being published today by Minister Mary Coughlin. The Department of Social Affairs says over 10 thousand inspections will be carried out this year nationwide. Under the pensions act employers are required to provide a pension scheme for their employees or enable them to access a personal retirement savings account. Minister Mary Coughlin says the compliance checks will boost private pension coverage among workers.
