INMO says staff need to be treated better by government

Irish nurses will today tell the HSE that if you want to recruit and retain nurses – you need to pay them.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation are holding a symposium in Dublin later to discuss the problem of understaffing in the health service and the resulting overcrowding in hospital A&Es.

It follows a record-breaking August in Irish hospitals, where 8,000 people were forced to wait on trolleys for care.

INMO General Secretary, and Ventry native, Phil Ni Sheaghdha says if recruitment and retention is the issue – the State needs to look at how it’s treating staff.
