Inland Fisheries Ireland announces sponsorship for Kerry angling initiatives

Inland Fisheries Ireland has announced sponsorship for two angling initiatives in Kerry.

Events in Tralee and Waterville are among the 79 initiatives receiving support under a fund of €30,000.

The aim of the scheme is to promote angling tourism and support novice anglers.

The Tag a Ray Competition in Tralee Bay, organised by Tralee Bay Sea Angling Club, will receive sponsorship under the scheme.

The national event, taking place this May, expects to see more than 50 participants attend the research and awareness event which aims to encourage those who have never fished before.

Lough Currane Seatrout Championship, a seatrout catch and release fly-fishing competition organised by Waterville Lakes & Rivers Trust will also receive sponsorship.

The event will take place this September and expects more than 50 domestic anglers to participate.

Inland Fisheries Ireland’s National Strategy for Angling Development aims to increase overseas angling visits from 163,000 in 2015 to 173,000 and increase domestic participation of 273,000 anglers annually by 0.5%.
