There’s been an increase in the number of abandoned cars being removed or destroyed in Kerry.
Nationally 227 vehicles were picked up and destroyed by removal firms acting on behalf of councils in 2014; that jumped to 820 last year.
Local authorities deal with the removal of vehicles abandoned on public roads or in estates.
In Kerry, 21 abandoned cars were destroyed last year; that was up from 11 in 2015, and 4 the previous year.
The figures are detailed in today’s Irish Times, where it’s suggested that the increase in the illegal dumping of cars is due to low prices for scrap metal.
