Increase in Kerry blood donors but more are still needed

There’s been a significant increase in the number of Kerry people donating blood – but even more donors are needed, particularly new ones.

That’s according to Maureen Gill, Donor Services Manager with the Irish Blood Transfusion Service.

According to figures, 6,536 people donated blood in Kerry last year – and increase of more than 200 on the previous year.

It’s estimated that one in four people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives, which is why a steady supply of regular donors and new donors are needed.

The IBTS clinic is coming to Killarney on the week beginning October 8th at the Dromhall Hotel, and to the Brandon Hotel in Tralee on the week beginning October 22nd.

Appealing for even bigger attendences at the clinics, Maureen Gill says a small sacrifice of your time could make a huge difference:
