The father of Mark O’Connor has spoken of the immense pride in the former Kerry footballer’s rise in the AFL.
Having only joined Geelong Cats late last year Mark O’Connor made his debut for the first team last week.
His dad John Diony O’Connor has also had his say on Tomas O’Se’s comments in the Irish Independent yesterday.
In an article headlined “I have nothing against Tadhg, but I just hate what he’s doing” O’Se criticises the loss of players such as Mark O’Connor to the AFL. Former Kerry footballer Tadhg Kennelly is AFL International talent manager. In the course of the article O’Se writes “Let’s make no bones about this. Right now, a lot of people in Kerry are cursing Tadhg. Cursing one of our own. That can’t be right. A lot of Tadhg’s former team-mates are sick of this too, they just don’t feel comfortable saying it. But I think (David) Clifford leaving would be the straw that broke the camel’s back.” Kerry minor footballer Clifford is constantly linked with a move down under.
