The Irish Greyhound Board has confirmed to Radio Kerry Sport that Kingdom Greyhound Stadium is set to lose 3 of its meetings each month.

This decision has been agreed by the Board, and its implementation is being progressed.

The Irish Greyhound Board says they have experienced a high demand from dog pools throughout the country and following a review it is necessary that amendments be made to racing schedules to accommodate current demands being experienced. They add that such demand is understandable following the three month suspension of racing activity.

A statement to Radio Kerry Sport reads “The IGB is very constrained from a financial perspective due to loss of commercial revenues and ongoing restrictions in capacity due to Covid 19 requirements. To address issues being experienced it is intended that the racing schedule in Tralee would be varied from 16 meetings per month to 13 meetings per month for a period. The meetings would be allocated to other tracks in an effort to support the wider industry”

The IGB says it is conscious that the reduction in race schedules in Tralee will cause some concern locally.

However, they add that the decision is being made to sustain activity throughout the industry at what is a very difficult period for all.
