IFA disappointed at Kerry Group milk price drop

The Kerry branch of the Irish Farmers’ Association is expressing disappointment at a cut in milk prices for the month of May. Kerry Group - Listowel Kerry Group has cut its May price by 2 cent per litre. Farmers say May accounts for 18 per cent of the total milk they produce during the year and therefore is an important month. Chair of Kerry IFA Sean Brosnan says they are seeking an urgent meeting with Kerry Group on the matter: [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/41497/medium/”] A spokesperson for Kerry Group says they have held milk prices over the past couple of months but international market returns have been falling since the second half of last year. As a result processors are subsidising prices paid to farmers and all processors have reduced prices for May. Kerry Group says it is sticking by its commitment to pay the leading milk price but has to adjust supplier payments to reflect international market returns.
