Iarnrod Eireann workers plan industrial action on Thursday

Rail chaos is on the cards for those travelling in and out of the country this weekend. Iarnrod Eireann workers are planning industrial action for Thursday, workers have voted to picket Kent and Mallow train stations. Siptu says the dispute arose from the company’s failure to reinstate a ticket-checker dismissed on disciplinary grounds. The union took the worker’s case to the Employment Appeals Tribunal which recommended re-instatement, however the company said they would appeal the decision to the Circuit Court. If the picket goes ahead Kerry rail passengers will be affected, particularly those planning to travel to the U2 concerts. John Pearson from Siptu says while they regret the move the company has left them with no choice.
