Hugh O’Flaherty would have condemned Trump’s actions

Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty, the Kerry priest who saved thousands of lives during World War II, would have condemned the actions of the US President.

That’s the view of Fine Gael senator Paul Coghlan who’s condemned Donald Trump’s temporary order banning refugees as well as citizens of seven countries with Muslim majorities from entering the US.

Hugh O’Flaherty, who grew up in Killarney and had strong ties to Cahersiveen, was known as the Vatican Pimpernel.

During the Second World War, he helped save the lives of Jews and Allied soldiers from the Nazis.

Senator Coghlan says Monsignor O’Flaherty’s saying  that God has no country rings true now more than ever.
