HSA considers report on fatel accident at Tarbert ESB station

A report on a fatal accident, at the Tarbert ESB station is currently being considered by the board of the health and safety authority. The HSA has the authority to initiate a criminal investigation, in cases where safety regulations have been breached. An internal inquiry by the electricity board has ruled out human error.In June of last year, an explosion at the Tarbert generating station claimed the lives of Michael Healy and Patrick Mc Crohan. Another ESB employee was seriously injured. The most recent ESB safety report published yesterday, shows the Tarbert accident was the sole fatality involving ESB employees in 2003.Padraig Mc Manus, theESB`s chief executive says that the organisation has set itself a target of zero accidents for staff and the public. Launching the safety report, Minister Frank Fahey said new legislation in the area of workplace safety will provide for heavy penalties, including imprisonment for companies who breach regulations.
