Housing boom set to continue

The housing boom will go on for the next ten to fifteen years, according to predictions from the Department of the Environment. 75,000 housing units will be completed this year and Environment Minister Dick Roche says building activity will continue at its current rate for some time to come. Speaking at the Construction Industry Federation conference in Killarney at the weekend, Minister Roche said housing output is advancing at four times the average European rate and construction now generates 42 per cent of all new jobs. However he warned builders that more progress was needed on sustainable construction and innovative materials.
