It’s hoped 56 jobs will be created in Cahersiveen by Skellig Distillers.
They’ve bought 2.4 acres of land from Kerry County Council for €110,000, the site of eight former IDA units.
The council sought expressions of interest for use of the units, and Skellig Distillers, trading as Skellig Six18, was the preferred proposal.
They plan to develop a working distillery and visitor centre on their current site, and a dunnage facility for storing and maturing spirits on the adjoining site where the former IDA units are based, creating 56 jobs.
Skellig Distillers are buying all of the units, including two being used by Cahersiveen Men’s Shed and the Rural Social Scheme.
