A homecoming will take place this evening to celebrate Listowel winning the National Tidy Towns Competition for the first time.
The North Kerry town also won the title of Ireland’s tidiest small town at the 60th annual SuperValu Tidy Towns awards ceremony at the Helix in Dublin.
Listowel has claimed a gold medal in the competition every year since 2008 and was Ireland’s tidiest small town in 2015 and 2016.
Julie Gleeson is the chair of Listowel Tidy Towns.
She says today’s triumph has been built on 25 years of hard work and effort by the tidy towns group and the wider community in Listowel.
Stephen Stack is chairperson of Listowel Business and Community Alliance.
He says a homecoming is being organised in the town centre at 8.30 tonight to welcome the Listowel Tidy Towns committee.
