A mother of 6 jailed and almost immediately released for refusing to pay a fine over the home-schooling of her children says she is ‘happy’ to have made the sacrifice. Monica O’Connor was arrested at her home in Tullow in Co. Carlow at 20 past 7 this morning and driven by Gardai to the Dochas women’s prison at Mountjoy where she was processed and locked in a holding cell. She and her husband had refused to pay a 2,000 euro fine imposed last June for failing to register 2 of their children for home-schooling. Her husband Eddie is also now facing a 10 day spell behind bars. Monica says the law in this case is ‘unjust’: [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/27794/medium/”]
