A Kerry nursing home in examinership has a positive financial future, according to a HIQA report.
In August, the High Court appointed an interim examiner to Melbourne Health Care Ltd., which trades under the name of Our Lady of Lourdes Care Facility in Kilcummin.
Its period in examinership is due to end in the coming days.
The Health Information and Quality Authority conducted an inspection on the 7th August, following the appointment of an interim examiner to the 68-resident nursing home.
A report was provided to HIQA detailing the funding required to enable the company to continue trading during examinership, including evidence staff wages are up to date and invoices are paid.
The inspector also noted there was no evidence that the welfare of residents was negatively impacted during this process.
An independent financial report outlined the healthy financial outlook for the facility, according to the provider.
However, measures recommended in a May 2018-fire safety report had not been implemented, including addressing ineffective containment measures, inadequate means of escape and deficits in fire-resisting construction.
In response, the provider said once they became aware of the required works – which was prior to this inspection – they sought funding.
However, following difficulties in securing funds, the provider then voluntarily entered examinership to ensure availability of the funds to complete the works.
The provider says all works have now been completed and are certified.
