Higher rate of comercial rates in Kerry

Kerry County Council is one of the most expensive local authorities in the country when it comes to paying commercial rates. That’s according to a league table published today by the business and employers organisation IBEC. Today’s table shows that Kerry comes in second only to limerick city council when it comes to rates for businesses. There’s been an increase of almost 30 per cent in the last 5 years IBEC says businesses now see commercial rates as stealth taxes that are rising at 3 times the rate of inflation. The group says councils around Ireland will collect over a billion euro this year up half a billion in just 5 years. However it’s claimed that while companies are paying more they’re actually getting less for their money with services such as waste disposal and water supply now user charges in their own right
