High quality water expected by 2005.

The Shannon River Basin District Project is set to impact on the quality of water in the county. A meeting on the project heard that it is to implement new legislation which aims to ensure that all waters will be of good or high quality by 2015. Kerry County Council is one of 18 local authorities taking part in the project which will benefit most of North Kerry and the northern half of the Dingle Peninsula. Representatives of the fisheries, aquaculture and forestry sectors along with members of Kerry County Council and the public attended the meeting at the Brandon hotel. Cllr John Brassil who chaired the meeting on behalf of Kerry County Council says that the project will have a significant impact on how people treat our water resources in the future. The meeting also heard that a river basin management plan must be prepared for each river basin district.
