High level of voter apathy in Kerry

A huge proportion of the electorate in Kerry cannot name a single councillor in their electoral area. With two weeks to go to polling the survey in today`s Kerry eye shows high levels of voter apathy. 500 people were surveyed by the IT Tralee college for this poll which shows that over half of voters in Listowel cannot name one of their local town councillors.Just 36 per cent of people in the Killarney urban area can name three out of the nine Town Council Members and in Tralee, two thirds of Tralee voters cannot name a single councillor. With just two weeks to polling candidates have a battle on their hands to engage the public in the democratic process.
