Help line is set up to respond to nursing queries

The Health Service Executive Southern Area says it would like to see nursing home regulations tightened. It follows confirmation that a prosecution is pending against a nursing home in the county. Last year there were 35 inspections carried out in the 18 private registered nursing homes in Kerry.Dr Catherine Murphy is the Principal Medical Officer with the Health Service Executive Southern Area. She outlines the concerns that they have. A helpline has been set up to respond to nursing home queries from the public. The national information line is 1 800 7777 37. Tom Leonard is general manager with the Kerry Community Services. He says people should not be afraid to come forward with their concerns.
