Planning permissions has been approved for 20 council houses in Ballybunion.
Councillors at the Listowel Municipal District meeting gave the proposal the go ahead after considering the manager’s report on it.
The development at Marconi, Ballybunion will comprise six two-bed single storey houses, and 14 two storey units – 10 are three-beds and four two-beds.
The plans also involve an access road, landscaping, and connecting to services.
It’s expected the building contract will be tendered in November with a view to starting on site early in the New Year.
Currently there are 81 applicants on the council’s one and two bed housing waiting list, and 20 applicants on the three-bedroom housing waiting list who have indicated Ballybunion as their area of choice.
The council says there are neither two nor three-bedroom houses in the private rental market in Ballybunion available to rent at rates that are in accordance with the council’s rent allowance.
