Grant aid of 3.7 million euro is announced for leisure facility in Balybunion

The proposal to build a swimming pool in Ballybunion has moved a step closer, with the announcement of grant aid of 3.7 million euro. The project has also been given approval for tender by Minister John O Donohue. The leisure facility will be built on the Kit Ahern ring road This project has been in the pipeline for Ballybunion for a number of years.It`s the brainchild of the local development company, who are looking to attract long stay visitors to the seaside town. The is a cap of 3.8 million euro on the grant aid available for these type of developments, this project received 3.7 million. The new facility will include a 20m by 10 metre pool, a smaller leisure pool, steam room and sauna, changing village, aerobics room and exercise and treatment rooms.This will come as welcome news to tourism interests in the town, whose season is dependent on good weather. Businesses have long been campaigning for more facilities for Ballybunion, which has seen a fall off in numbers over the last number of years
