Kerry duo David Higgins and Mark Murphy have failed to break par on the opening day of the Nissan Irish Open. Higgins stands at 1 over, Murphy 4 over, after rounds of 73 and 76 respectively. Higgins opened with a double bogey, followed by bogey, par, birdie, and was 2 over after 4. 2 birdies, at his 6th and 9th holes of the day meant Higgins reached the turn at level par. 4 bars followed before he bogeyed the next 2. But he picked up a birdie at his second last, and finished plus one.Murphy had a bogey, double bogey and birdie in his first 3 holes, and 2 further bogeys at the 5th and 6th had him at 4 over. He steadied the ship with 5 straight pars, but dropped another shot at the 12th. Murphy parred 5 of his 6 remaining holes and birdied the 16th-so he’s 4 over.
