Gardaí say Carrauntoohil cross probe is ongoing

Killarney gardaí say their investigation into the cutting down of a cross on Carrauntoohil remains ongoing. Credit Kerry Climbing The metal cross, which has been on the top of Ireland’s highest peak since 1976, was cut down on  November 22nd last. Volunteers re-erected the structure a week later. Video footage posted online showed a person cutting down the cross with an angle grinder. The video indicated that the attack was motivated by anger over the number of primary schools under the patronage of the Catholic Church.
