Gardaí and OPW working to identify those responsible for littering in Derrynane National Park

Gardaí in Cahersiveen have confirmed they are examining materials left behind by vandals who littered a South Kerry nature reserve at the weekend.

Locals were outraged after an area of Derrynane National Park was left in a disgusting state by a group who engaged in illegal camping in dunes on the protected reserve.

Tents, trash, fecal matter and used condoms were among the items left behind in an area of natural beauty.

Local resident Ross Duffy said the area was left in an horrendous state:

 

 

Gardaí in Cahersiveen said they are examining some of the items left behind in an effort to identify the culprits.

The Office of Public Work have also stated they are working closely with Kerry County Council and An Garda Síochana to address the matter and the actions required.
