Gardaí are investigating the alleged attempted abduction of a child in Scartaglin.
It’s understood that on Saturday afternoon two men in a black Volkswagen Golf approached a young boy, who was playing in Scartaglin GAA grounds.
It’s understood that the two men, who were wearing balaclavas, chased the boy; however, he managed to get away through a hole in the fence and raise the alarm.
He was not injured during the ordeal.
The Garda Press Office confirmed they are investigating an alleged suspicious approach to a child, which was reported to have occurred at 3pm on Saturday in Scartaglin.
They say enquiries are ongoing.
Scartaglin GAA notified parents of the incident today and are holding an officers’ meeting tonight.
The message from the club to parents said a concerning incident occurred in the GAA pitch over the weekend, and parents are being asked not to leave children unattended and to remain vigilant.
The club adds that a public meeting will be held with parents in the coming days.
