Future of Stewardship Trust consultation to take place

Consultation on the future for the controversial stewardship trust is to take place in the Diocese over the coming months. The trust was set up to cover The Church’s legal liabilities arising from compensation claims for child sexual abuse. It also funds child protection activities. The Kerry Diocese paid over 158,000 euro to the trust in 2004. In a statement yesterday Bishop Bill Murphy said contributions in Kerry were not paid from weekend collections in parishes. Director of the Catholic communications office Martin Long says there will be consultation on the best way forward.
