Fund worth €250,000 to enable students live with Gaeltacht families for three months

College students will now have the opportunity to live in the Gaeltacht for three-months due to the establishment of a new fund worth €250,000.

Minister for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands Seán Kyne made the announcement today.

This fund will afford third level students the opportunity to live with Gaeltacht families for three months while attending a third level qualification course.

A subsidy worth €17 a day will be provided, enabling third level institutions offer this term in the Gaeltacht to their students.

It will be directed towards those who have Irish as a core subject and for those who require a high level of competency in Irish to work in professions in the public service.
