Four members of South West Regional Fisheries resign.

Four members of the South West Regional Fisheries Board resigned last night after a decision by The Board to recommend the use of monofilament netting. Anglers in Kerry staged a protest with their Cork counterparts at last nights meeting against the introduction of the monofilament net which they say will damage already dwindling salmon stocks. The proposal was passed by a majority vote of members of the board. The programme will be on a trial basis for three years and will be closely monitored. The board will now recommend the use of the monofilament net to the Minister of State for the Marine John Browne. Aidan Barry Chief Executive of the South West Regional Fisheries Board confirmed that members are generally given the opportunity to withdraw their resignation.
