Two former Killarney Town Councillors have joined with two elected members and The Manager as part of a Council Junket to Concorde in North Carolina in the United States. Council staff were unable to put a value on the five day trip, saying it will not be calculated until the five have returned and submitted their expenses. The visit was organised as part of the Councils twinning programme.Former Councillors Sean Counihan and Sheila Dixon, along with Cllrs Tom Doherty and Sheila Casey are all part of the delegation as well as Town Manager Tom Curran. Town Clerk Michael O Leary has defended the visit saying in a town dependant on tourism it`s important that officials and Cllrs go abroad to market the area. A total spend of 21,000 euro is going on foreign trips this year, 15,000 is allowed in the budget for trips abroad and 6000 is set aside on its twinning programme.
