A First World War medal has been found in North Kerry.
John McNama from Lixnaw was digging potatoes in his vegetable patch recently when he found a World War 1 military service medal.
The George V medal, which was issued in 1918, had been awarded to Private Michael Leane of the Royal Munster Fusiliers.
He was born on the 3rd October 1879 in Irramore, Lixnaw, and was killed at the Battle of the Somme on the 1st September 1916, aged 36.
Private Leane was awarded two medals, including the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
Mr McNama says he’d like to return the medal to Private Leane’s descendants.
