Fine Gael select three candidates to run in Listowel Electoral Area

Fine Gael members in Listowel have chosen a newcomer to run for the party in next May’s county council elections. Aoife Thornton from Lixnaw who’s a solicitor in Listowel is one of the three candidates chosen by party members at a convention in the town last night. FineGael logoKerry County Councillor Tim Buckley and Listowel Town Councillor Mike Kennelly were the other two candidates selected. Radio Kerry News understands Cllr Buckley got the most votes from the 200 Fine Gael members eligible to vote with Aoife Thornton coming second and Mike Kennelly third. Three other candidates put their names before convention – Listowel Town Councillors Jacqueline Barrett and Tim O’Leary and Kerry County Councillor Liam Purtill. However, Councillors Barrett and Purtill withdrew their names from the contest at the start of last night’s convention.
