Fianna Fail Councillor Ned O Sullivan will not contest next general election

Councillor Ned o Sullivan says he will not be contesting the next general election in North Kerry as an independent candidate. In a statement issued to Radio Kerry news the Fianna Fail councillor says he will be giving his best support to the selected candidates Norma Foley and td Thomas Mccellistrom.Just over a week ago, the Listowel councillor declared he would be reviewing his position after he failed to win the party nomination to run at the next general election. He said his failure to secure a nomination constituted a democratic deficit as Fianna fail had failed to select a candidate from the Listowel area. Both Tom Mcellistrim and Norma Foley are based in the Tralee electoral area. The party then wrote to the former mayor asking him to explain his comments. In a statement issued today, he says he will not be running in the election but will work to revitalise Fianna Fail in the Listowel area and to further consolidate his council base.He says he will give every support to the Foley-Mcellistrim ticket. The announcement will come as a relief to party HQ, who had feared he might have run as an independent and put Fianna Fail’s current dail seat at risk.
