Fears of risk from Algae growth have diminished

An Algae growth alert in Lough Lein in Killarney has passed according to Kerry County Council. There had been a slight risk to public health that was ongoing for the last eight weeks, but this is no longer evident. The blue green algae is no longer present, it`s thought lower temperatures, strong winds and heavy rain in recent weeks are believed to have helped ease the situation. The current situation in the lake is that it is in good condition, but continues to be exposed to phosphorous inputs which in certain weather conditions will lead to a reoccurrence of the Algae growth.
