Fas predicts further job losses in Kerry.

Fas is predicting further job losses in the county in low skilled sectors. In its annual end of year review the training agency says that people working in the low skilled sector are more likely to lose their jobs than people in high skilled industries. Kerry has seen the loss of low skilled jobs in recent times with the closure of Wilson Sports Socks in Caherciveen and the Goblin factory in Tralee where up to 40 people are to be laid off.Gerard Dineen of Fas in Kerry says we need to attract more highly skilled jobs as we cannot compete with Eastern Europe in attracting and maintaining low skilled jobs such as plant and machine operatives. Meanwhile Fas itself saw little or no increase in employment in the county and says it will not be predicting a rise in employment within the agency for the coming year.
