An extension to the closed period for spreading fertilisers is positive news for Kerry farmers, according to Minister Brendan Griffin.
The deadline for spreading chemical fertiliser has been extended until the end of September and the application of organic manures is now the end of October.
The aim is to maximise fodder production in Ireland.
Minister Griffin says it is a positive step for hard pressed farmers who are struggling following extreme weather conditions.
Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed says he will continue to monitor the situation and will also provide support regarding importing fodder.
