Evening Sports Update

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill has yet another injury concern to deal with just four days before the World Cup qualifier against Austria.

The Irish Independent report that Jonathan Walters sat out training today because of a knee problem picked up earlier in the week.

O’Neill has also lost David McGoldrick with a knee injury and at present only Newcastle’s Daryl Murphy is the sole option to lead the line.

Austria also have their problems.

Striker Marc Janko has been ruled out of the game with tonsilitis.

Austria are already without a host of players through injury and suspension.

It appears that Real Madrid’s pursuit of David de Gea (PR: Hay-ah) is at an end.

Reports from Spain suggest the European champions are happy to stick with Keylor Navas for next season.

Real would have to fork out 75-million euro for the Manchester United keeper, but the dressing room want Zinedine Zidane to keep faith with Navas.

Madrid or Baku will host the 2019 Champions League final.

Atletico Madrid’s new Estadio Metropolitano and Baku’s Olympic Stadium have been shortlisted, with a decision to be made in September.

The 2019 Europa League final will be held in either Baku, Seville, or the new Besiktas stadium in Istanbul.

Carl Frampton will return to fight in Belfast in his first fight since losing his WBA super-featherweight world title.

He’s tweeted to keep July the 29th free – but it’s not known yet who he’ll face.

Frampton suffered his first ever professional defeat when he was beaten by Leo Santa Cruz in January.

Connacht have continued building for next season with the signing of James Mitchell.

The scrum-half joins from Sale Sharks where he made 12 Premiership appearances last term.

Mitchell qualifies for Ireland through his maternal grandmother.
