Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says they’re yet to receive satisfactory offers for Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay.

Both will be allowed to leave this month – but Mourinho would rather they’re on a permanent deals than a loans.

Everton have been linked with both players.

Mourinho has also confirmed that his captain Wayne Rooney will start in their FA Cup third-round tie against Reading tomorrow lunchtime.

Spurs attacker Erik Lamela has returned to his former club Roma for injury treatment.

The 24-year-old Argentina international has not played for Tottenham since their defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup on October 25.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino says the player has ‘strong links in Rome’ and has thanked the Serie A side for aiding his recovery.

UCD’s Karen Duggan and Shelbourne duo Leanne Kiernan and Noelle Murray have shortlisted for the Continental Tyres Women’s National League player of the year award.

Kiernan, who is also in running for the young player prize, scored a hat-trick in Shel’s FAI Women’s Cup Final victory over Wexford Youths in November.


Defending champion Novak Djokovic is into the final of the Qatar Open.

He survived losing six games in-a-row in the middle of the match as he defeated Fernando Verdasco 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.


2016 Irish Olympian Saskia Tidey has switched allegiance to Britian with a view to representing Team GB at the 2020 Games.

Along with partner Andrea Brewster, they were 12th overall in the 49-er FX in Rio but Brewster has since retired.

Tidey says there’s no prospective partner in Ireland with the same level of experience.


Former Irish champion jockey Fran Berry hopes to make his return from injury next month.

Berry fractured his foot in a stalls accident at Lingfield in October and is set to have a recovery boot removed next week.

He says he hopes to be back riding for chief employer Ralph Beckett by the end of February – in time for the new turf season.
